Its compact design allows for space-saving integration into existing pond systems. An optional vortex pre-filter is available, which improves mechanical dirt separation and extends maintenance intervals.

Construction and scope of supply

The multi-chamber filter is made of weather-resistant GRP. Pre-assembled PVC waste pipes and slide valves allow each chamber to be emptied separately. Supplied with: slide valves, media carrier and all necessary connectors.

Installation examples

The installation situation influences the function and operational reliability of a multi-chamber filter. Depending on the pond size, available space, and technical requirements, different installation concepts are used.

Law of gravity

The water flows pressureless into the multi-chamber filter via floor drains and/or skimmers. The filter is generally installed 3–5 cm above the water surface. The floor drain and skimmer are controlled separately. This variant is preferably used for koi ponds and performance-oriented pond systems.

Gravity/pump version

Water enters an upstream pump chamber free of pressure via floor drains and/or skimmers, and is actively conveyed from there into the multi-chamber filter. The floor drain and skimmer are controlled separately. This variant allows for flexible placement of the filter system with controllable system operation.

Pump version

The pump is located directly in the pond and actively conveys the water into the multi-chamber filter installed outside. After cleaning, the water is returned via the return line. This option is particularly suitable for smaller pond systems or for retrofitting existing ponds.

Further information on „Why Multi-Chamber Filters“: TRIPOND Multi-chamber filter GRP | Aqualogistik GmbH

Why multi-chamber filters?

Multi-chamber filters have been considered the foundation of stable pond systems for decades, and for good reason. Not every tried-and-tested technique is outdated. Sometimes it's simply perfected.

Biological stability instead of technical complexity

A healthy pond relies on its microbiology. Multi-chamber filters are designed so that different bacterial strains find optimal living conditions: the mechanical pre-stages (vortex, brush chamber) supply organic material as a nutritional basis, and the biological chambers with Japanese mats offer protected deep colonisation. The result is a dense, stable biofilm that is significantly more tolerant of peak loads – for example, due to feeding breaks or treatments – than thinner biofilms on smooth plastic carriers.

Keine beweglichenteile – keine mechanischenausfälle

The multi-chamber filter operates without sensors, control boards or motors. What isn't installed can't fail. The system continues to run passively during a power outage – the bacteria on the Japanese mats survive for hours to days in the moist environment and resume operation immediately after restart.

Winter operation without restrictions

Large volumes of water and the absence of fine capillaries make the covered multi-chamber filter frost-resistant. The biology remains active all year round – a calm start to the spring season can be planned, not dependent on chance.

Planned maintenance

Cleaning a multi-chamber filter is simple and entirely up to you: open the slide valve, drain off the dirty water, and you’re done. It takes around 20–30 minutes a week. When you open your filter, you can also check the condition of your pond’s ecosystem – the consistency of the sludge, the smell, and any visible parasites. This direct feedback acts as a practical early warning system.

Economically sustainable

GRP is not subject to any technical wear and tear. A multi-chamber filter made of glass-fibre reinforced plastic functions just as well after 20 years as it did on the first day. Wear parts are limited to occasional seals on the slide valves. Consumables are completely eliminated.

In short, the multi-chamber filter solves no technical problem through more technology – but rather through biology and physics. Those who prioritise long-term stability over short-term ease of use are making a decision with a multi-chamber filter that will pay off over the entire lifespan of the pond.

The TRIPOND series filter is a multi-chamber GRP filter for ponds up to 30,000 litres.
